Cookware Needed:
- 10″ Cast Iron Pan (8 or 9 are okay too)
- Mixing Bowl
- Oven
Grocery List:
- Crust:
- 2 – TBSP olive oil (separate)
- 2 – cups flour
- 1 – tsp sugar
- 1 – tsp salt
- 1 – packet Instant Yeast
- 3⁄4 – cup hot water
- Toppings, Measure with your heart, these are some of my favorites:
- Pizza Sauce
- Mozzarella
- Goat Cheese
- Black Olives
- Italian Sausage
- Pepperoni
- Basil
Recipe:
Crust:
- Add 1 TSBP of olive oil to your cast iron pan. A cake pan will also work.
- Combine the hot water, yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl and stir thoroughly.
- Add the remaining olive oil, salt, and flour to your mixture and stir until combined. This will feel like too much flour. You may need to use your hands to combine or schmear the dough along the side of the mixing bowl to incorporate all of the flour.
- Once the dough is combined, form a ball with your hands then begin to stretch it out into a circle. Place the circle of dough into the cast iron pan, cover with a towel, and set aside for 45 min – 1 hour.
Pizza:
- Preheat oven to 425 F and prepare your toppings, ie: slice black olives, cook italian sausage, cut basil, etc.
- Flip the dough so the oiled side is up and use your fingers to press and dimple the dough towards the outside of the pan. No need to smash the dough into the pan or go up the sides.
- Top the dough with the pizza sauce, cheese, and other toppings, then place into the 425 F oven for 20-25 minutes. Look for the cheese to be turning golden brown.
- Remove the pizza from the oven, slice, and serve. Be careful, the pan will be hot.
